Personality: Ashe is very much a product of her upbringing. To understand who she is and why she does what she does. It’s important to know that she was born to an extremely wealthy couple in the American Southwest. Her parents were wealthy to the extreme, being high up on the financial food chain. They worked hand in hand with CEOs to grow profitable businesses and give business advice all over the world. She had all the privilege a girl could want as far as objects and educational opportunities, but what she really needed was her parents. They were nearly completely absent in her life as they travelled the world for their business and left her in the care of their family butler, an Omnic named B.O.B. Their absence is noted by a clip of her as a young girl sitting at a large table on her birthday with two pieces of cake at her parent’s seats and a broken and angry look on her face. Their abandonment may have gone even further as there are no pictures of her on their wall, suggesting she was isolated from them on a deeper level than just their business keeping them busy. The treatment by her parents really broke her heart and she has a lot of unresolved grief around it that bleeds into a desperation for human connection and family, but also left her without the skills to properly express those needs. This is shown in her origin clip where she talks about the expectations she has of the members of her gang that she considers family. The suggestion that leaving her is a punishable act and her forgiveness is a rare thing to come by.

She may not be quite so black and white as her external personality suggests. She makes a lot of threats, but they appear to be more the product of impulsivity rather than planned out. There isn’t a doubt that she is a force to be reckoned with as she’s feared in Southwest as a formidable and dangerous criminal. After all, she participated in a lot of violent gang warfare, ultimately ending the war herself. However, she has a soft spot where people she considers family are. When she was “abandoned” by Jesse McCree, who was co-leader of her gang and the person she was arguably the closest to, she took it hard. Even though he left against his will, she took it as betrayal. She makes a lot of outlandish statements about killing him/shooting him/ripping off his arm/etc. but holds back when she has the chance. She also keeps a picture on the dashboard of her bike that was clearly torn (in an example of her impulsivity) and taped back together. It’s old, but she keeps it close on something of great importance to her. Even her omnic B.O.B. doesn’t believe her when she says that she “should have shot him when she had the chance”. Something keeps her from actually hurting him despite the rule that she stands so “strongly” behind that you can’t cross her and live to tell the tale. Likewise, she left her parents. She didn’t bring them any real harm. She’s shown to destroy their property, but never them. All of this suggests that her violence and violent threats stem more from self preservation and keeping those that hurt her a safe distance away from fear of repercussion.

While she may have some grey areas about killing, she’s still in no way a pacifist. She enjoys a good fight. During her school days it’s shown that she was getting into fights, likely taking the position of school bully because she’s shown to have beaten up two boys from her private school. They are also covered in bruises and bandages and clearly very hurt, while she sits like a storm cloud in the middle of their parents yelling at her. This was another time that played into her mess of abandonment issues. While the other parents were there, hers were nowhere to be found. She felt they weren’t there to defend her and her anger is visible both in her expression and the way she talks about it. The fighting continued, though with bigger and more dangerous people. She’s extremely impulsive when angry and she lashes out quickly and without regard for consequences. Generally this doesn’t work in her favor and it is part of what leads Jesse to take down her entire team on his own in the “Reunion” short.

When she has her anger under control and is calm and thinking clearly, she is a brilliant strategist. This ability is a major strength. She started off as a rich and spoiled schoolgirl, and left that behind to build an empire from scratch. Along with Jesse McCree, B.O.B. and two other unidentified men, she formed a gang that took off. Their heists went off so well that they started to piss off the established gang system of the American Southwest. The other gangs hated that they were young and so good at what they were doing. For a time there was a lot of bloodshed and violence among the gangs. Instead of caving to the pressure, Ashe relished it. Due to the work that she had watched her parents do, she had become a brilliant business woman. She knew how to negotiate and how to fight and the combination brought a time of calm to the criminal system. The rules that are now set in place among the gangs are her rules, so even the other gangs hold deep respect for her and know not to cross her. She now leads the large gang called the “Deadlock Rebels” that grew from the small gang she helped found. She looks to it all as a business model and herself a leading business woman. She isn’t wrong, it’s just that it’s all criminal activity and it’s earned her a place on America’s Most Wanted, with a bounty of 65 million. She sees this as success though and she thoroughly enjoys the thrill of being notorious and continuously escaping the law.

While her strict adherence to rules might be a weakness that blinds her to anything that doesn’t fit into her ideals, it’s also led to a resiliency that is a huge strength. Ashe has faced a lot of pain, a lot of violence, and a lot of emotional turmoil and yet she comes out of it repeatedly on top. Even when she fails, she’s a spitfire that fights back. Her anger is a driving force in that and so even though her anger could be seen as a weakness, it could also be seen as a great strength because it pushed her forward. She never falls apart and breaks, she gets angry and she fights back. This is something that will serve her well in Deerington as she faces many adversities. She’s not going to freeze or run away, she’s going to stand her ground and fight.

Her loyalty is another great strength. It may lead her to be unforgiving, but she gives just as much as she expects. She loves deeply, even if she loves rarely. The individual who she is the most attached to is the family butler B.O.B. who pretty much raised her and took responsibility for getting her out of trouble. He is deeply loyal to her and likewise she is deeply loyal to him. She’s never without him and her attachment is in some ways almost juvenile. She acts like a spoiled brat around him as she make demands and sasses him. Though he can’t speak, she talks to him at great length and knows him well enough to know what he’s thinking/expressing. He was supposed to serve her parent’s wishes, but as he raised Ashe from a child to a teenager to an adult, his loyalty shifted to her and he abandoned his post to follow her. The bond between them is strong and the poor omnic butler puts up with a lot from her. He seems to be the only one to know what is really bubbling below the surface for her and that doesn’t always make her comfortable. This is seen in the post Reunion clip where she huffs and shoves his hat off when she feels called out. They know each other well enough that he can predict her moves and jumps in front of her to protect her. He is a shining example of her loyalty and deep love that she can feel when it has been well earned.

Ashe is a passionate woman, devoted to the choices that she has made in her life despite that they sometimes get her into trouble. No one ever has to guess at what she’s feeling because she wears it on her sleeve. Outwardly there are a lot of weaknesses that hold her back from being able to fully achieve her goals. Such as her unwillingness to compromise and her greed. Her greed is mostly due to her parents putting the worth of objects over the worth of their daughter. She soothes the unmet personal needs through bigger and better scores, but never fully satisfies the ache being neglected and abandoned has left in her. She’s allowed objects, wealth, and the satisfaction of a successful heist to feed the loneliness. Ultimately what she really wants is a family, it just has to be on her terms.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Ashe has no abilities of her own. Everything she does and is, is related either to her skills as a fighter and gunslinger. Her omnic B.O.B. likewise is technology based and has no powers, though he’s got some hefty firepower in his hands. He would be prone to anything that happens to damage tech in Deerington.

Inventory: Her omnic B.O.B. Though B.O.B. is of the self aware variety of omnic, he is more an extension of Ashe herself. The two of them are kind of only coherent with the other. B.O.B. doesn’t speak and is sidekick, butler, and nanny to Ashe. Much of what she does and who she is relies on him. There isn’t enough history or personality for B.O.B. to be an applicable character on his own and Ashe is required for him to do anything. B.O.B. is self aware with some feelings of his own, but they are only ever expressed through her and he is a simplistic omnic, functioning purely to support Ashe. Likewise, he would fall victim to any technological failure in Deerington and could potentially completely cease to function. In the link I gave to her history, he is also placed within her kit of abilities, so he’s not really his own character and is something that she owns that is always on her person. Due to the fact that B.O.B. has canons in his large arms/hands, she would only be able to have him as he is technically a weapon of hers. Because she can have four things her other 3 are: Her clothing from home, makeup kit from home, and her motorbike.

What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: I love pretty much all aspects of psychological horror. I very much enjoy the tense atmosphere that is built and challenges the characters involved. Violent themes can be fun to play out. I also enjoy the mysterious aspect of thrillers, not being quite sure what’s going to happen next.
Is there anything in particular you absolutely need specific content warnings for?: Rape, though it’s not in the game, and suicide. Otherwise I am pretty good.
